GlossyBox Canada February 2012 Review

Delivery packaging:
It comes in a gorgeous dark chocolate brown rectangular cardboard box with pastel pink GlossyBox logos all over it. The delivery method used was CanadaPost. It was quite a surprise when it arrived today. Normally with the other sample box subscriptions, they would send shipping notification and/or tracking number, but no notice came from GlossyBox. Good thing is that it had arrived quite fast. As well, since you have to tear the box to open it, it's definitely secure. This is the first sample box I have received for the month of February. Yay!

Packaging itself:
Inside the delivery box contains another box. It comes in a lovely pastel pink rectangular box with a black GlossyBox signature logo on the centre of the top lid. Quality wise, it is great! Very sturdy and reusable, with a nice matte feel to it.

Inside packaging:
The items come tied together with a blush pink ribbon. There is a black envelope secured closed with a round sticker with your name on it, making it more personalized. Enclosed in the envelope is cards and papers informing you about the GlossyBox and all that it contains. Everything is wrapped up in sophisticated black issue to keep it nice and tidy. Love the black and pink theme going on here!

Items inside the box:

  1. Glossy Box card: one side has a welcome and Valentine's message, while the other side gives a description of all products included in the box
  2. GlossyBox labels - includes 3 GlossyBox sticker labels
  3. Wella Professionals - pamphlet which provides product information
  4. BeautySoClean - pamphlet which provides product information, includes a 20% discount code when shopping at www.beautysoclean.com
  5. Wella Professionals - Brilliance Shampoo (full size 300ml retail: $13.99) - 1.7 fl. oz. / 50ml SAMPLE
  6. Oscar de la Renta - Live in Love Eau de Parfum (full size 30ml retail: $62.00) - .1 fl. oz. / 4ml SAMPLE

Ending box packaging:
The bottom of the box is filled with black crinkled paper strips. Everything was wrapped in the black tissue paper with the blush pink ribbon. While the outside box is pastel pink, the inside is the reverse, where it is black with pastel pink GlossyBox logo all over. It really is an adorable box. Tres cute!

Overall impressions:
FINALLY! The launch of the GlossyBox in Canada has arrived! It's great to have another player in the beauty sample box arena. I like it that this one is well-known and has been around for awhile, although the Canadian division has got off to an okay start in my opinion. Maybe this is due to all the hype of having GlossyBox in Canada but for being the inauguration box...I don't know, I suppose I was just expecting a bit more or at least more special that makes GlossyBox stand out from the rest.

Shipping was great for the GlossyBox but as mentioned in the beginning, no notification or tracking. As well, although it was quick, I do see that others have already received their GlossyBox last week. Although I know that these beauty boxes are meant to include deluxe samples, in all the ones I have received from the other subscriptions, I have always been lucky enough to receive at least 1 full size item. I don't have an expectation of it, but with GlossyBox being a bit pricier ($15 vs. the norm average of $10) and it being the FIRST box available, I was hoping for at least 1 full size product. I do notice from other posts that in some of the boxes people have received a full size Essie nail polish which would have made me so much happier. I really appreciate it when the companies try to not have too much inconsistencies with what the subscribers are receiving in their boxes. I understand if it is a difference in colour or type that is included, but when it comes to actual products itself, it is a bit annoying to see that others may receive more/better products when the price paid is the same. If you really have to make it inconsistent, at least have it approximately in the same value/cost category.

The samples themselves were pretty alright. Brand wise they are luxurious enough. Issue I have is that while the Elizabeth Arden Prevage Day Cream is great value and product, anti-aging is not an issue for me at the moment, so that item does not feel really customized to my needs. It's nice that the Oscar de la Renta perfume sample is one of the deluxe miniature perfume sample instead of just being a sample vial. The Wella Professionals shampoo is nice, but I think I got a bit spoiled for shampoos when comparing it to the Shu Uemura shampoo included in TopBox Jan. 2012. I do really like the Beauty So Clean bonus products that GlossyBox has included. I actually have a bunch of them myself, though with these things more is never enough. The Cosmetic Sanitizer Wipes are used for cleaning cosmetic products such as lipsticks, gloss and cosmetic pencils while the Cosmetic Sanitizer Mist is used more for powder-based products.

Overall, GlossyBox is good but not the amazing I was expecting. Maybe first boxes are a bit overrated. Here's hoping that with time, they'll keep getting better and better in Canada!

    1. Thanks! Yes, I am SO into nail polishes and really I was thinking about joining Julep Maven, especially with the 1 penny promotion going on. The only thing that's been stopping me is that are the products included in the Julep Maven box only by the Julep brand? Part of the reason I like these beauty boxes so much is that I like trying different brands, whether they're new or tried and true. For sure, if I decide on joining Julep i'll go through you! =D

    2. Yeah all that Julep Maven box is only by the julep brand. But I think the good thing about having all these products from julep is that you'll know that it is high quality. They have a pretty wide product offering, from lip gloss, hair spray, lotions and now they have argan oil to the list.

I answered your question on my blog. Don't know if you read it, so here it is :)

Thank you for your kind compliments! To answer your questions, I really like the consistency and application of the polish. I find it comparable to my Dior polish, which I paid well over $20. But I really can't justify paying $14 for each individual polish. As for the Julep Maven program, I do find consistent value. Unlike other subscription boxes, Julep gives you a sneak peak of what's being featured in the incoming month before it is sent out. So you have an opportunity to try a new style or skip the month, or even cancel. The regular fee is $20/month, but you'll always get well over what you pay for. I suggest you sign up for the 1 cent promo box and see if you like it or not. A penny is almost a freebie! I also want to add that they have a great referral program, for every 2 people that sign up, you get a free month!
